My Pöyry Story

'I appreciate the lifelong learning path'

Jani, Department Manager, Finland

Pöyry has a team of top professionals from whom you can always learn something new.

“I am a father of two: a 3-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl. I joined Pöyry in 2006, after four years at the Lappeenranta University of Technology. I was immediately offered an opportunity to participate in projects and work with our experienced professionals. That marked the beginning of a learning path that still continues. Pöyry has a team of top professionals from whom you can always learn something new. My career has progressed from piping strength calculations and project management to line management. I have been involved in projects globally, from Sodankylä in Finnish Lapland to Mexico, in the petrochemical, mining and energy industries, as well as local industry project services.

In addition to the high level of competence, the excellent atmosphere makes Pöyry a great place to work, particularly at the Kotka office, where I am based. I have spent many unforgettable moments with colleagues, at work and in my free time. For example, Pöyry’s annual floorball and football tournaments are amazing events where you meet colleagues from around the country, and it always feels great to bring the trophy home to Kotka, particularly in football.

The best aspects of working for Pöyry include the empowerment and accountability for one’s own time management. This helps me maintain a healthy balance between work and family life, which can get quite hectic at times. Another important aspect is the opportunity to meet new, interesting people and customers. To make it in this constantly changing business, we have to put the clients first in everything we do."
