My Pöyry Story

'I can share my experience for the benefit of my colleagues and clients'

Mårten, Project Engineer, Sweden

The key to delivering the projects successfully is to understand the client’s needs.

"I work at Pöyry’s office in Piteå, Sweden, managing piping and plant design as a discipline leader. With a degree in mechanical engineering and some extra studies in energy and thermodynamics, I joined Pöyry in 1988. I was encouraged by my father’s friend who knew Pöyry from the client perspective.

During these years, I’ve been guided by the words of Rolf Eidesten who was the MD of Pöyry in Sweden in the late 1980´s. When he hired me, he said: “Remember, we don´t set the limits -you set them by yourself.” I have always had the possibility to develop my own skills and my contacts and influence my work. I also had the honour to meet the company founder, Jaakko Pöyry, a couple of times and learned a lot listening to him.

I find my work and the company very motivating and inspiring. The efforts needed to develop and improve our methods and skills will pay off through successfully implemented client projects. It also makes me happy that I can share my experience for the benefit of my colleagues and see how my work adds value to the clients.

I´ve been working with different kinds of projects including greenfields, brownfields, rebuilds, rewamps and plant developments. The key to delivering the projects successfully is to understand the client’s needs and work together with the client in a respectful manner. And if challenges emerge, they can be overcome with good communications and teamwork."
