Kati, Project Engineer, Finland
There is room for many kinds of people and knowledge at Pöyry.
"I studied process technology at university, majoring in automation technology. After graduation I continued with further studies in mining. There someone hinted about Pöyry and so I applied for a job here in 2011.
I started as a project engineer mainly in mining industry assignments for the study phase. As I got more experienced, I was able to act as a project manager. In recent years I have taken part in implementation projects and have been on various project sites. Currently I am on an 18-month secondment in Norway where our Pöyry team of around 20 people representing four nationalities is working on the expansion of an existing fertilizer plant. Before Norway I had a shorter secondment in a gold mine in Kittilä, Finland.
The locations of these secondments have been a perfect fit for me because I love trekking in nature and Norway provides great opportunities for that. In Kittilä I had a chance to experience something rather unique on a customer site – seeing a solar eclipse from the top of the pipe that was to be cut.
What makes working at Pöyry so enjoyable is accountability, freedom and colleagues. I also enjoy working with customers and contractors towards a common goal.
There is room for many kinds of people and knowledge at Pöyry. Taking initiative, being curious and having good team working skills are qualities that are valued here. I have had a chance to learn a lot of new things at Pöyry, the most important so far being the ability to see the big picture of what it takes to execute a major industrial investment project."
