My Pöyry Story

'I get to develop myself in challenging design projects'

Pekka, Project Manager, Finland

I am proud to be working for a company that has such wide expertise.

"I work as a project manager in rail design projects in our Vantaa office in Finland. I have a Master’s degree in civil engineering and had worked for infrastructure-related projects for nine years before I was headhunted and joined Pöyry in 2012. In fact, I knew Pöyry beforehand as a big company with deep expertise in many sectors. This image has proven to be true, and I am proud to be working for a multi-talented company.

Pöyry always seeks to recruit the best talent: people who are conscientious, take initiative and strive to move things forward. I was initially a designer in railway projects. Having gained more experience over the years I also took on the tasks of head designer and Building Information Modelling coordinator. I was involved in the preparation of the (currently very topical) Tampere tramway alliance offer, and I have continued on this project as a project manager. The right attitude will help you to overcome challenges and go far.

As a project manager, I oversee that a number of different engineering disciplines progress properly. I also coordinate the planning, the timely, qualitative and financial progress of the project, and liaise with the client. My typical work day includes a few meetings, a lot of phone calls and e-mails, as well as follow-up of project work and schedules.

At Pöyry, we do big, challenging design projects in which self-development is possible. Outside of work, I enjoy music, ice hockey and spending time with my  family."
