Idil, Analyst, Finland
I love the challenge to learn fast and think outside-the-box to help solve some of the world's biggest issues.
"Hello my name is Idil and I work in Pöyry Management Consulting’s Concept Development team. I come from Turkey and my background is in Chemical Engineering.
Since starting at Pöyry I have been involved in a number of leading edge projects to create the next generation of bioproducts and bioplastics and ‘cracking the code of lignin’. I started working for Pöyry as a summer intern and I really liked the diversity of the work, the challenge to learn fast and think outside-the-box.
At Pöyry, our expert Concept Development team are creating a path for substituting petroleum based plastics (currently an inseparable part of people’s daily lives) with bio-based plastics, fibre-based alternatives or recycled plastics. One of the important things that we keep in mind is the needs and properties of end use applications.
Everyone is talking about how bad the ‘plastic ocean’ is and asking questions such as ‘will there be more plastic in the sea than fish by 2050 if we go on business as usual?’
Through the interesting work that me and my colleagues at Pöyry are doing, we are actually offering a way – and have come up with real solutions to tackle the problem. You can see one a glimpse of one of them I am holding in my selfie!
The plastic ocean is a threat to our food supply, the health of the ocean and we are running out of land. Through the work we are doing at Pöyry I have a great opportunity to personally contribute to solving the plastic problem. And this makes me proud to work for Pöyry."
