PÖYRY POINT OF VIEW REPORT / 12 Jan 2016
The Recarbonisation Revolution
A new Point of View by Pöyry calls for a recarbonisation revolution of global material flows, representing a multi-billion Euro business opportunity for the forest industry.
Moving just 1% of global business in packaging, plastics and fossil based material flows would equate to roughly 40 billion Euros in annual revenue for the sustainable economy, whilst also helping the world tackle climate change.
This special Point of View details the convergence of climate change and technological innovation in bio materials, such as lignin, sugar, nanocellulose and graphene. The transition from pure fossil based materials to biobased ones will lock carbon in the value chain in a sustainable loop. Given the size of the materials market, such as packaging and plastics, even small transitions to biobased composites will yield significant revenue for the forest industry and lock carbon in the materials cycle.
