Call for Papers: 6th International Conference - Traffic and Safety in Road Tunnels

The 6th International Conference TRAFFIC AND SAFETY IN ROAD TUNNELS will take place in Hamburg from 10-12 May 2011. The event is organised and hosted by Pöyry. In order to maintain the high standard of this conference and to cover a wide range of viewpoints - from tunnel operators, planners and researchers - we are launching a call for papers.


Authors are invited to submit a draft paper to be considered for presentation and publication at the next conference. All proposals must be original and report on recent significant and substantive experience or achievements. Acceptance for presentation will be focused on quality and significance of the papers.


Presentations should focus on the following topic areas:


  • National and international guidelines
  • Drivers' behaviour
  • Risk analysis
  • Automotive industrie: vehicle related passenger safety
  • Guidance and emergency systems: optical, e.g. LED technology, signalling or acoustic, e.g. routing, on-board-units
  • Active and passive fire protection

Please note that draft papers should not be longer than one page and must be submitted in English by e-mail to the following address: . The deadline for submission of draft papers is 31 August 2010.

Expert Committee


Draft papers will be reviewed by our international expert committee:

  • Mr. Roberto Arditi, SINA Spa, Italy
  • Mr. Alfred Haack, STUVA, Germany
  • Mr. Didier Lacroix, Centre d'Etudes des Tunnels (CETU), France
  • Mrs. Sabine Vogler, Pöyry Infra Traffic, Germany

All applicants will be notified of their paper's status by the end of October 2010. Authors whose draft has been accepted must submit their final paper, register and pay for the congress by the end of December 2010. There will be a special speakers' rate of 990 EUR; speakers from public authorities, institutes of higher education and nonprofit-making organisations pay 690 EUR. All prices are net prices.


The final papers must be delivered in English; an additional German version is favourable but optional.


In addition to your final paper, we kindly ask you to provide us with the following:


  • Author's full contact details
  • Author's vita (max. 1 page)
  • Author's photograph (image file)

Non-selected papers are eligible for a poster presentation. Details of the poster exhibition will be published at a later date.

Exhibition Information


TRAFFIC AND SAFETY IN ROAD TUNNELS will be accompanied by an international expert exhibition at which approx. 40 exhibitors will present their products and services as well as latest developments. In planning the exhibition, we have improved the way we accommodate exhibitor requirements and will take feedback from the previous conference into account. A registration form for our expert exhibition will be available for download from our website www.tunnelcongress.com soon.


Presentations will be made in German or English and translated simultaneously. The conference proceedings will be available in English only.
