CMC TERASTO APPOINTED RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FINNISH RAIL ADMINISTRATION'S RAILWAY MANAGEMENT IN EASTERN AND WESTERN FINLAND


CMC Terasto Oy, which is part of the Jaakko Pöyry Group's Infrastructure & Environment business group, has signed agreements with the Finnish Rail Administration for railway management in eastern and western Finland. The duration of the assignments is five years and their scope equals about 74 man-years' work input during the contract period.

The assignment covers the maintenance management of railways, rail structures and equipment, land areas and buildings administered by the Finnish Rail Administration. The management services cover tasks such as tendering, instruction and supervision related to maintenance work.

The geographical boundaries of the western management area are the cities of Riihimäki in the south, Rauma in the west, Pieksämäki in the east and Ylivieska in the north. The western area covers some 1400 km of railways. The eastern management area covers railways east of the Lahti-Pieksämäki-Iisalmi line, including some 1800 km of railways.

The Finnish Rail Administration's tendering strategy for maintenance of the railways is executed through management contracts. The management model has been tested in northern Finland, where CMC Terasto Oy has been in charge of railway management since 2003.
