ELECTROWATT-EKONO AWARDED TWO WASTE-TO-ENERGY PROJECTS IN SWITZERLAND

Electrowatt-Ekono AG, which is part of the Jaakko Pöyry Group's Energy business group, has been awarded two contracts for owners engineering services in waste-to-energy plant replacement investment projects in the cities of Winterthur and Bern, Switzerland. The assignments cover the first phases of the projects and amount to EUR 1 million.

The Winterthur waste-to-energy plant project includes a new incinerator, an additional flue gas cleaning unit and an extraction condensing steam turbine. The facility will receive some 160 000 t/a of municipal solid waste and will produce 21 MW of electricity. Electrowatt-Ekono's services comprise overall assessment of the pre-feasibility study, optimization of the technical concept, final design for process technology and civil works, and assistance in preparation of the public vote for the investment credit.

In the Bern waste-to-energy plant project an innovative solution is introduced by combining a waste boiler with a gas turbine and biofuel boiler. The natural gas fuelled 45 MW thermal cogeneration plant will supply electricity to the grid and heat for district heating. Electrowatt-Ekono's services comprise the technical, commercial and operational concept of the cogeneration plant.

The Energy business group, operating under the brand name Electrowatt-Ekono, had net sales of EUR 146 million in 2004. Electrowatt-Ekono has offices in 22 countries and employs 1500 experts worldwide.
