PRESS RELEASE 5 Apr 2004

ELECTROWATT-EKONO AWARDED WASTE-TO-ENERGY CONTRACT IN UK

Electrowatt-Ekono (UK) Ltd, which is part of the Jaakko Pöyry Group's Energy business group, has been awarded a contract by Kent Enviropower Limited as owner's engineer for the largest waste-to-energy facility using fluidised bed technology in Europe. The contract will extend current services and the value of this assignment is EUR 1.7 million.

The site is located at Allington Quarry in Kent, UK, and the project will consist of an integrated materials recovery, waste fuel preparation and waste-to-energy plant comprising three stream fluidised bed units. Electrowatt-Ekono's services include project management; review and approval of the EPC contractor's designs; supervision of construction, commissioning and testing; and management of plant take-over procedures. The services will be carried out by the end of 2006.

The new waste-to-energy facility will have an annual capacity of 500 000 tonnes and will work with a materials recovery facility able to take up to 65 000 tonnes a year of source separated materials for recycling. The facility will take only non-hazardous wastes and will generate up to 40 MW of electricity to power the plant and for export to the local supply network.

Kent Enviropower Ltd is part of the Waste Recycling Group, which is one of the UK's leading waste management companies. The Group operates across the UK and receives, processes, recycles and disposes of more than 10 million tonnes of waste a year for a wide range of local authority and commercial customers. The Group operates a network of landfill sites, is a leader in the field of waste composting, generates more than 100 MW of energy from landfill gas and runs a major waste-to-energy plant in Nottingham.

The Energy business group, operating under the brand name Electrowatt-Ekono, had net sales of EUR 98 million in 2003. Electrowatt-Ekono has offices in 22 countries and employs 1100 experts worldwide.
