PRESS RELEASE 22 Dec 2009

Pöyry awarded engineering of railway line modernisation in Finland

PÖYRY PLC          Press release 22 December 2009 at 1.00 p.m.

The Finnish Rail Administration has awarded Pöyry an assignment for engineering of the modernisation of the 113-km railway line between the cities of Seinäjoki and Kaskinen. The value of the contract is about EUR 1.6 million.

Pöyry's services cover preparation of the railway track and construction plan. Pöyry will be responsible among other things for engineering of the railway track, earthworks and rock structures, as well as bridge and road arrangements and environmental planning. The purpose of the project is to remove the speed limits for freight traffic on the railway line and improve rail traffic safety. The project involves eliminating level crossings, modernising warning devices and revamping the railway superstructure. The planning will begin before the end of this year and will be completed in 2011.

Pöyry is currently engaged in a number of important railway projects in Finland, including the Metropolitan Area Ring Rail Line and the Western Metro extension. Its most recent projects also include the railway connection to the Katowice airport in Poland, the high-speed railway connection between Madrid and Lisbon, and the extension of the Sao Paulo metro in Brazil.

The Finnish Rail Administration (RHK) manages Finland's rail network. Through planning, construction, maintenance and traffic control RHK ensures infrastructure on which traffic can operate every day, reliably and safely. The Finnish traffic and regional administration will be reorganised on 1 January 2010, when the Finnish Transport Agency, the Transport Safety Agency and the Centre for Business and Industry, Transport and the Environment go into operation. The Finnish Transport Agency will consist of the Finnish Rail Administration, parts of the Finnish Maritime Administration, and the central administration of the Finnish Road Administration.
