Pöyry's Urban & Mobility business group has been awarded a contract in a consortium for the design and engineering services for the rehabilitation works of the operating and safety equipment by the Swiss Federal Roads Office FEDRO. Pöyry's share of the contract is EUR 4.2 million. The project will be completed by 2018.
Pöyry will provide the services in cooperation with Erb & Partner AG within the engineering consortium IG Kerenzerberg.
The technical works are intended to improve the safety of the tunnel with the adjustment of the 6-km-long tunnel to the latest requirements and shall thus guarantee operations for the next 25 years.
One of the key challenges during this project will be the planning of the rehabilitation measures during ongoing operations. The second big challenge will be a new exhaust gas extraction method to be implemented for the first time in Switzerland.
