PRESS RELEASE 22 Dec 2010

Pöyry awarded technical and traffic consultancy services contract for high speed rail in Russia totalling EUR 1.5 million

PÖYRY PLC          Press release 22 December 2010 at 8:45 a.m.

Pöyry's Urban & Mobility business group has been awarded a EUR 1.5 million technical and traffic consultancy services contract by High-Speed Rail Lines OJSC. The work starts immediately and Pöyry's services will be delivered within the next 6 months.

High-Speed Rail Lines OJSC is an entity in charge of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high speed rail project HSR-1. This subsidiary of government-owned Russian Railways has been created to develop and implement the project on behalf of the Russian Federation.

Pöyry's services as technical consultant cover the elaboration of a technical concept for a new high-speed railway line between Moscow and St. Petersburg. As a traffic consultant Pöyry will also carry out traffic forecasting and evaluation of traffic on route variants.

The new high speed rail line is expected to be implemented as Public-Private Partnership, where the design, construction, financing and maintenance of the infrastructure as well as operations of the train service shall be carried out with private sector participation. The 660km line is expected to reduce journey times between Moscow and St Petersburg down to 2.5 hours.

Pöyry has long experience in carrying out high-speed rail projects worldwide. The assignments include for instance several HSR projects in China, Germany, Portugal and Spain as well as the HSR project in Taiwan.
