Pöyry designed a finalist of an international shopping centre competition

ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centres) has nominated the finalists for the prestigious ICSC European Shopping Centre Awards 2011. The short nominees list includes the development and extension of the Rocca al Mare shopping centre. Rocca al Mare is located in Tallinn, Estonia, and it belongs to Citycon, a Finnish-based shopping centre owner. The project competes in the series "Large Refurbishments and Expansions".

Together with Citycon, Pöyry in collaboration with NordProjekt architects (Estonia), created a new commercial concept which found its expression in an innovative, customer friendly, architectural and interior design.

"With the addition of new stores, the retail mix was revitalised to provide shoppers with a more interesting and complete shopping experience and turn Rocca al Mare into a truly customer service oriented life style centre that caters to all demographics", notes ICSC in the competition leaflet as to why Rocca al Mare was nominated finalist.

Moreover, Pöyry's real estate consultant took care of the LEED certification. Rocca al Mare is the first shopping centre in the Baltic Region to be awarded a LEED certificate for environmental sustainability. The silver level award was granted in February 2010.

The green principles applied in Rocca al Mare's construction have led to environmental as well as business profits: increased energy efficiency and less greenhouse gas emissions, as well as healthier and safer environment for occupants and visitors.

Winners will be announced in June 2011 at the European Shopping Centre Awards Ceremony in Paris, France.
