PRESS RELEASE 3 Feb 2012

Pöyry helping the Zanaga Iron Ore Mine in Congo achieve sustainable development

PÖYRY PLC          Press release 3 February 2012

Pöyry's Water & Environment business group has been awarded a project by MPD Congo, a subsidiary of Xstrata, to help prepare the Social & Environmental Impact Assessment (SEIA) for the Zanaga Iron Ore Mining Project in the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville). The assignment has been booked in the fourth quarter 2011 order stock. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.

MPD Congo is assessing the Zanaga Iron Ore Project, which is at pre-feasibility stage. If developed the Zanaga Project would comprise an iron ore mine and processing plant, transport corridors and a port. Processed ore would be transported to a new port facility located north of Pointe Noire, Congo for export overseas.

Pöyry will assist MPD Congo in preparing the SEIA for all infrastructure (mine, transport corridors and port, including early works) in order to obtain the environmental permit for the project in compliance with Congolese legislation. Beyond its legal obligations, MPD Congo also requires that the ESIA project meet Xstrata and IFC guidelines.

Pöyry has extensive experience in preparing SEIAs and providing the client and authorities with balanced solutions that consider the economic, environmental and social impacts of the investment. The company provides these consulting services for large infrastructure projects worldwide, including Central Africa.
