President of Latvia, Raimonds Vejonis, visits Pöyry head office, Vantaa, Finland
On 1 November, President Vējonis visited Pöyry’s head office in Vantaa, Finland, in connection with his state visit to Finland. President Vējonis was interested in Pöyry's views on trends in the water and environmental sectors, as well as clean energy opportunities.
During the visit, Pöyry's experts discussed the challenges and opportunities that global megatrends such as climate change, digitalisation, the bio-economy as well as energy and resource efficiency set now and in the future, and what solutions are available. Pöyry has deep insight and expertise in these areas that impact not only the Baltic States but on a global scale, too.
During the course of the discussion, bio-economy and renewable energy were hot topics. Talks covered the transition of the energy market towards a more decentralized, flexible system, the development of water management towards a cleaner, more efficient path, as well as the circular economy and responsible business practice.
President Vējonis was very satisfied with the visit:
It was very interesting to visit Pöyry, to understand the insights they have around environmental regulation and where technical solutions are heading to. The Pöyry team is very professional and understands the direction of their industries."
President Vējonis was hosted by Pasi Tolppanen and Nicholas Oksanen from Pöyry’s Group Executive Committee, together with Mirja Kosonen from the environmental unit, Matti Iikkanen from the water unit and Olli Sipilä from management consulting.
We are deeply honoured by the fact that Pöyry’s competency is known by the President of Latvia and happy that we could arrange the meeting he had hoped for”, says Pasi Tolppanen, CEO of Pöyry Finland Oy. “In the discussions, his interest in our sectors and the trends within each became clear. I am happy that we could provide him with a fresh insight on these topics.”
President Vējonis continued from Pöyry to a construction site in Espoo, the Blominmäki waste water treatment plant, which is also one of Pöyry's design projects.
