The task of erecting a double-curved arch dam provides an interesting challenge for construction engineers.
The Ermenek dam and hydroelectric power plant is located on the Ermenek River, a tributary to the Göksu River in the southern part of Turkey, close to the popular tourist destination of Antalya. It has a rated-head of 327 metres and a capacity of 300 MW. Additionally, two vertical-shaft Francis turbines produce a mean total annual energy capacity of 1 GWh.
The project consists of a 210 metre high double curved arch dam in the Görmel Gorge and an approximately 9 kilometre long head-race tunnel (ø 5.6 metre) with a 1.125 metre long inclined pressure tunnel (ø 4.7 metres), a powerhouse and a tail-race channel.
Pöyry's services include detail design, execution design, geological survey and mapping, co-ordination of civil constructions with EM and HM suppliers, and site management. The project is constructed within a Turkish-Austrian construction consortium.
