Improvement of water and wastewater services requires special expertise in the areas of physical water and wastewater infrastructure, institutional development as well as in project financing.

Pöyry has carried out six separate Feasibility Studies in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan for EBRD: Kazan (population 1.1 million), Kharkiv (population 1.5 million), Aturay, Murmansk, Archangelsk, Syktyvkar and Vorkuta. Pöyry supported the client in defining bankable investment projects to improve water and wastewater services in the cities.

The starting point was to assess the present situation of water supply and wastewater services and identify present problems and bottlenecks. Based on the findings, Pöyry helped the client to develop a long-term investment strategy and to develop an affordable least cost priority investment program. Services covered also financial analysis and projections as well as environmental assessment and action plan.
