In order to collect, transport, treat and dispose hazardous waste in an appropriate and environmentally sound manner, the Republic of Tunisia has established an integrated hazardous waste management system based on the construction of a hazardous waste facility and three regional centres (IRST) for reception, storage and transfer of hazardous waste.

Within the framework of promoting private sector participation in management and financing of environmental protection infrastructure, the Client intends to assign a private company to manage and operate the facilities. Start of the management and operation of Jradou facility was in beginning of 2008, and operation of the three regional centres will start in 2009
