The Sibiu - Fagaras link is part of Pan-European Corridor IV, an important transport route between East and Middle Europe. Connecting Sibiu and Fagaras in the Transylvanian mountain range in central Romania, this project is a major step in upgrading the Romanian road network to European Union standards. The express road Sibiu (Vestem) - Fagaras will be built across the centre of Transylvania to establish a faster and easier connection between the Sibiu-Deva-Highway and the Transylvania Highway.

The total length of the road will be about 73 km, the typical cross profile will be 2x2 lanes without emergency lanes. Pöyry's services include performing the feasibility study of the alignment, preliminary and tender design for the design and build contractor and site supervision during project implementation. In the first planning stage Pöyry provides the preliminary design which contains basically alternative options of the alignment and the cost estimate and performing of cost benefit analysis.
