Substantial repairs and replacement were necessary for the rehabilitation of the rail line from Frankfurt / Main to Würzburg (Main-Spessart Railway line). The rehabilitation works included: 25 km of replacement track, 86 turnouts, 42,000 sleepers, removal of 27 turnouts, embankment rehabilitation and construction of protection layers. The project was split into 130 work components to minimise construction costs, schedules as well as the impact on ongoing railway operations. These were implemented in a sequence to allow for the continuation of single track operations. The rehabilitation works program was completed in a period of 11 months.

Pöyry was responsible for the project management, cost management, design of permanent way construction, planning of modifications to the signalling and telecommunications systems, tender preparation and assistance in contract award as well as track-related surveying.
