European Energy Markets: At The Vanguard Of Decentralised Energy Transition
The world is moving towards decentralised generation and European energy markets are at the vanguard of this transition. In this trilogy of articles (first published by Utility Week), Pöyry's Simon Bradbury discusses the following challenges:
1. Active distribution is key to deploying decentralised generation: The world is moving towards decentralised generation, and essential to this transition is the active operation of distribution networks.
2. Revamping network charges: where to begin? The EU wants a coherent framework for network charges that doesn’t discriminate between transmission and distribution, but that is much easier said than done.
3. Priority dispatch for renewables is no longer a priority: The Clean Energy Package constitutes something of a watershed moment for renewable technologies within the arrangements that govern Europe’s electricity industry.
