Pöyry Post Energy Winter 2018: Digitalisation Changes Everything
Just half a year ago we were stunned by a video published via social media by robotic specialist, Boston Dynamics: a dog-like robot is opening the door for one of its kind to pass through and both disappear into another room. All of a sudden millions of viewers understood that all these futuristic movie plots were real. Robots, Artificial Intelligence (AI) had a face.
Meanwhile Google had programmed an algorithm, AlphaGoZero, that was able to learn the Go game autonomously. Within 4 days the system was able to play the game at grandmasters level. After 72 days it beat the world champion by using new strategies created by itself!
Maybe this is how the people felt when they first heard of the steam engine or the telephone, saw a car or watched The Lumière Brother’s Arrival of a Train?!
Undoubtedly digitalisation will change the way we live and think.
Knowing what digitisation is able to do, and moreover not knowing but imagining, fascinates and frightens people all over the world. This is why we at Pöyry faced the beast from the beginning and provide advice and support to our customers.
Digitalisation is the thread that holds together the Winter 2018 edition of the Pöyry Post Energy.
We analyse the digitisation of network operations, share our views on AI in the energy industry, have a look at recent developments in blockchain technology and give you some insights from our recently held event #PowerOfDigital in Berlin.
We also share with you the most valuable thoughts from our conversation with leading protagonists from the business in the Pöyry Post Energy interview with Dr. Karsten Wildberger, COO of E.ON, and his perspective on how one of the biggest European players in the business manages the digital transition.
