JAAKKO PÖYRY GROUP AWARDED EUR 1.6 MILLION RAILWAY ENGINEERING CONTRACT IN FINLAND
JP-Transplan Oy, which is part of the Jaakko Pöyry Group's Infrastructure & Environment business group, has signed a railway engineering contract in Finland. The value of the contract is EUR 1.6 million and it includes an option for subsequent engineering totalling EUR 2 million. The current assignment will be completed by the end of March, 2005.
The Finnish Rail Administration has appointed JP-Transplan to perform the general engineering for upgrading a 180-km stretch of the railway between Seinäjoki and Oulu. Developing this railway and improving its capacity is the most important rail network development project in Finland. The engineering work now agreed includes fundamental improvement of the line and review of bridge and road alternatives necessary for eliminating level crossings. Special emphasis will be put on construction techniques which allow traffic to continue while the improvement work is in progress.
