JAAKKO PÖYRY GROUP'S ENERGY BUSINESS GROUP WINS SEVERAL MAJOR ASSIGNMENTS IN FINLAND
Ekono Energy Ltd, a Jaakko Pöyry Group company, has won several major engineering assignments, with a combined value of about EUR 4 million. "After a prolonged period of inactivity, domestic power plant projects are again recovering", comments Ari Asikainen, President of Ekono Energy Ltd.
A contract has been signed with Kymenso Oy concerning engineering services for a 70 MWe combined-cycle power plant to be built at Stora Enso's mills at Anjalankoski, in southeastern Finland. Ekono Energy Ltd will serve as main engineering consultant in the ACE 2000 Project (ACE = Anjalankoski Clean Environment), which is estimated to cost a total of about EUR 60 million. Ekono Energy's services consist of overall project management and overall responsibility for detailed engineering.
Alholmens Kraft Oy has decided to go ahead with its plan to build a new power plant at Pietarsaari, and Ekono Energy Ltd has been commissioned to provide engineering services for this 240 MWe extraction condensing plant. The services commissioned so far are primarily related to work scheduled for 1999. Jaakko Pöyry Group companies JP Building Engineering Ltd and Jaakko Pöyry Oy will also contribute to the project.
Earlier this year, Ekono Energy was commissioned to provide complete engineering services for a power plant to be built by Salmi Voima Oy. Situated at Iisalmi in northern Finland, the power plant will use domestic fuels to generate 15 MW of electricity and 30 MW of heat. The total investment cost is estimated to about EUR 20 million. Ekono Energy will be responsible for planning the entire power plant building process so as to ensure that the subsupplies included in the various contracts will form a complete, functional unit.
