PÖYRY COMMISSIONED TO IMPROVE SERVICE STANDARD ON LAHTI - LUUMÄKI RAILWAY IN FINLAND
Pöyry has been commissioned by the Finnish Rail Administration to improve the service standard on the Lahti - Luumäki railway track. With a total value of about EUR 3 million, the assignment comprises construction management and supervision, including project coordination and overall responsibility for construction management. The project will be completed at the end of 2010, after which guarantee period services will continue until 2012.
The Lahti - Luumäki railway section has a length of 120 km. The aim of the project is to allow the speed of passenger trains to be raised to a level of 200 km/h and the axle weight of freight trains to be raised to 25 tons at a speed of 80-100 km/h. These figures can be reached by modernising safety systems, by building new traffic operating and track change points, by reinforcing substructures and foundations, and by repairing old track structures.
Pöyry has previously provided the Finnish Rail Administration with construction management services for example in the Kerava urban line project and in the renovation projects of the Kouvola - Pieksämäki, Tampere - Jyväskylä, Luumäki - Joensuu and Turku - Toijala railway sections. In addition, Pöyry is in charge of the railway management services for the railway networks in eastern, western and northern Finland. The present assignment further strengthens Pöyry's position as Finland's largest provider of construction management services for railway projects.
Pöyry is a global consulting and engineering firm focusing on the energy, forest industry and infrastructure & environment sectors. Pöyry's net sales in 2006 amounted to about EUR 620 million and it employs 7000 experts.
