PRESS RELEASE 18 Dec 2018
Pöyry is proud to be supporting The Ocean CleanUp by making a voluntary donation this festive season
The Ocean CleanUp is a non-profit organisation with the aim of helping to reduce the amount of plastics in our oceans by developing advanced technologies. The innovative designs and creations by this organisation estimate that they can rid up to half of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in 5 years’ time.
The simple, yet brilliant U-shaped ‘floater’ system uses the ocean’s currents to move it along by floating at the surface. The floating system prevents plastics from passing over it, while a 3 metre-long skirt hangs below to collect any debris below the surface. This debris is then collected at coordinated points and removed from the oceans.
“Pöyry is proud to support such an innovative solution to the world’s plastics problem. The Ocean CleanUp shows how true intrapreneurial spirit can work towards a more sustainable future, inspiring confidence for a cleaner planet,” Juuso Pajunen, Chief Financial Officer, Pöyry PLC.
Fundamental to Pöyry’s modern culture is the importance of empowering all 5500 intrapreneurs to create smart solutions, which build on the megatrends to add extra value to clients.
And exposed to the same shocking images of the ‘plastic ocean’, our passionate intrapreneurs are turning their deep knowledge and insight of the bioeconomy to pioneer bio-based, biodegradable solutions to substitute plastics.
At Pöyry, we are proud to be playing our part in curing the plastic addiction and improving society for the next sixty years and generations to come.
