The Atatürk Dam is the largest structure ever built in Turkey for irrigation and hydropower generation. At 170 m high, this rockfill dam with a 2400 MW powerhouse is one of the largest embankment dams in the world. Pöyry was responsible for the design, construction and monitoring services for the multipurpose scheme for power generation and irrigation.

Located on the Euphrates River, the Atatürk Dam constitutes the key unit in the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP). Pöyry's experience in Turkey extends to ten other large hydropower projects.
