Solvay Chemicals Finland Oy, Hydrogen peroxiden plant

Capacity Increase at Hydrogen Peroxide Plant

Kuusankoski, Finland

Project facts

Project Type: EPCM project

Client: Solvay Chemicals Finland Oy

Facility use: Hydrogen peroxide production

Total investment cost: not published

Start-up: Dec 2005

Pöyry assisted Solvay Chemicals Finland Oy in doubling the capacity of an existing hydrogen peroxide production line and construction of a new hydrogen production plant located in Kuusankoski, Finland.

Pöyry provided project management, engineering, procurement, construction management (EPCM) services for the project. The time schedule for execution was only 13 months from the EPCM contract award to the mechanical completion date of the plant.

One-third of the process equipment was renewed, some of which were additional to existing processes and some were equipment replacements to increase production capacity. The sizes and suitability of existing instruments and piping were rechecked to ensure that they were compatible with the new production values.

New piping was installed and some existing piping replaced. The automation control system was also renewed.

Because of the rebuild nature of the project, the operating plant was running during the project engineering and construction phases. As a result of good co-operation with Solvay personnel, shutdown of a production line in November-December 2005 did not result in delays to the time schedule.
