Pöyry provided engineering, procurement, construction and project management (EPCM) services to Kemira Uruguay S.A. for a chemical island that supplies the chemicals for the pulp mill located in Fray Bentos, Uruguay.

Kemira Uruguay S.A. is a division of Kemira Oyj, one of the world's leading pulp and paper chemical producers.

Kemira's Chemical Island includes plants that produce sodium chlorate, chlorine dioxide, oxygen and hydrogen peroxide. Chemical Island also includes facilities for unloading, storing and distributing transit chemicals.

The project commenced in October 2005. Pöyry brought to use its 4ePCMTM project tool in providing an overview of the large amount of interconnected responsibilities, events, decisions and documents that served as the backbone to this project.

Chemical Island was ready for production in September 2007.
