Shining light into lives...
Amata B.Grimm Power specialises in developing greenfield power plants—those that are entirely new and not “add-ons” to existing infrastructure. The company is considered a pioneer in the private power generation industry in Thailand, having established it in the region in the 1990s.
Amata Corporation’s Nakorn Industrial estate is more than an industrial park. It’s a planned city. And the company prides itself on offering efficiencies of scale and lower costs through shared facilities and utilities. That includes powering the site in a clean and efficient way. In 2000, Amata B.Grimm Power realised that to help the industrial park reach its growth goals, it would need more than the existing 170 MW combined cycle power plant.
In 2000, Pöyry headed up project design of the 110 MW plant. Six years later, in 2006, Pöyry designed a combined cycle power plant that included one gas turbine, one heat recovery steam generator and one steam turbine generator set. For both projects, excellent team work was essential.
According to Rainer Koedel, Amata B.Grimm Power’s project director for both plants:
Our relationship with Pöyry established with the 2001 project made them a natural choice for the work done in 2007. It’s the kind of trust that can only happen through successful delivery.
Despite ambitious schedules for both projects, the power plants were delivered on time and budget and allowed Amata B.Grimm Power to achieve its expansion plans. And it enabled the company to sell a major portion of the power to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).
