João Cordeiro, Senior Principal
Today, 33 years later, as a Senior Principal in Helsinki I still get highly motivated
Hello! I am João Cordeiro. I vividly recall my first assignment at Pöyry back in 1985. Pöyry was engaged to assess the financial and technical feasibility of a pulp mill in Bahia, Brazil. We were three Pöyry forest engineers assessing fibre costs and availability. The industrial investment alternatives were considered by a team of pulp technology experts. In the field work we felt the 40 degrees heat, met poisonous snakes and worked long days. But it was all worth it! The project was a success and the client was happy.
Another milestone in my Pöyry career was back in 2004. A multidisciplinary team went to Uruguay to assess the viability of building the first pulp mill in that country. We needed to propose a wood procurement strategy, to define the mill’s technical concept and scale, assess product logistics and model financial attractiveness. After completion of several studies we recommended the client to go ahead. The billion-Euro investment became one of the most competitive pulp mills in the world.
These are flashes of my long and dynamic career at Pöyry. Today, 33 years later, as a Senior Principal in Helsinki I still get highly motivated in these kinds of international assignments; the secret to success lies with the combined talent of our people working harmoniously with the client as one integrated team – this combination of knowledge allows us to find the best solutions in helping our clients to succeed.
